Wind turbines installed at eco-homes

A development of ten eco-homes has had its wind turbines installed.

The Heywood Gardens project in Prestwich, has received its turbines, which will supplement consumption at the ten homes and when there is excess export it to the national grid.

Built by Seddon Group's regeneration arm Inspired Developments, the wind turbines are designed to reduce the amount of energy the homes require from the national grid, thereby reducing their energy bills.

Denis Maddock, sales and marketing director for the company told the New Builder: "It is clear a new approach to house building is needed in the UK given government targets on sustainability and energy ratings for homes.

"By incorporating wind turbines into the Heywood Gardens scheme we are using a renewable energy source which will significantly reduce the homes' dependency on the national grid."

The development also features insulated walls, photovoltaics and advanced heat recovery ventilation systems.

Some of these measures could be added to existing homes and E.ON can provide advice on when and where wind turbines can be affixed to homes, offices and buildings.
