E.ON customers could see bills cut

E.ON customers will see their bills reduced next year, if prices on wholesale markets continue to slide, the company said.

With soaring wholesale prices earlier this year blamed for rising bills, E.ON chief executive Dr Paul Golby said that if they continued to drop, the company would pass on the cut to customers.

He said: "If we continue to see falling wholesale electricity and gas prices, we'd hope to reduce customers' prices as soon as we are able next year.

"We're obviously very aware of the difficulties our customers are experiencing, especially considering the current economic problems and we're monitoring wholesale prices closely in the hope of making this move."

At the same time, the company has secured assurances regarding the deliver of Russian gas for its European operations.

According to Kommersant, the company had discussions with prime minister Vladimir Putin to ensure the gas that keeps homes warm and lit would continue to flow even if Russia and Ukraine have a dispute over its cost.

In the past Russia cut off supplies through Ukraine, affecting Europe.
