A wind turbine company that has contracts with E.ON is celebrating sending its 1,000th wind turbine in its 2.5 megawatt-rated N80/N90 series.

German firm Nordex started building the turbines in 2000 and since then has managed to reduce production hours by five per cent.

The company has also used the "evolution" in its production process to develop the N100, which has a rotor diameter of 100 metres, for inland locations.

Carsten Pedersen, chief operating officer for sales and marketing, said: "More than eight years of wide-ranging experience with this turbine class in all climate zones give us a considerable competitive edge."

In total, the company has installed 3,500 turbines worldwide, with a total capacity of 4,330MW as of September 2008.

In August, E.ON which has 20 offshore and onshore wind farms in the UK, ordered two Nordex turbines for its Axeltopfta wind farm in southern Sweden.

E.ON is currently building a wind farm at Robin Rigg, set to be one of the largest offshore projects in Europe.
