An offshore wind installation firm has experienced "explosive" business growth since buying a ocean platform.

Danish company A2SEA has seen such growth that it has bought a second installation vessel which will be named Sea Worker.

A2SEA claims to have installed 70 per cent of all offshore wind farms since being set up in 2000.

Among the projects it has helped set up is E.ON's Scroby Sands, which generates enough energy to supply over 30,000 homes and saving the emission of 67,802 tonnes of carbon dioxide.

A2SEA chief executive Jens Frederik Hansen said: "This acquisition has enabled us to offer a wider range of services, e.g. higher installation capacity for the waters west of Great Britain, where we are experiencing an increasing activity."

The company has predicted that its turnover will rise threefold to over £13.5 million this year and expects the amount of offshore wind capacity in Europe to grow from 750 megawatts in 2006 to over 12 gigawatts in 2015.

They could find themselves dealing with Ed Miliband who today (October 3rd) was made secretary of state in a newly created Depatment for Energy and Climate Change.
