A company which plans to be one of the first to use renewable sources to generate the power to create renewable energy technologies was hailed as "the future".

Welsh Assembly minister for the Environment, Sustainability and Housing Jane Davidson visited solar panel manufacturer G24i this morning, reports New Energy Focus.

She said that the company, which develops portable solar technology and lightweight photovoltaic panels "is the future".

She added: "Climate change is the greatest challenge we face today. Our ability to develop 21st century technology that cuts our carbon and environmental footprint will be vital."

The technology developed could be included in some of the products in the E.ON website's Going Green section, such as a solar powered phone charger.

G24i was recently listed among the Clean Tech 100, a list of sustainable and green technology firms operating in Europe compiled by The Guardian newspaper and Library House.

The company's dye-sensitised thin film solar cells have been integrated into the sail of a boat travelling around the world raising awareness of climate change.
