Wind 'most advanced renewable'

Wind turbines are the most advanced renewable energy technology, according to developers behind a wind farm proposal.

Plans were submitted by Marshland Wind Farm Limited for a 19-turbine wind farm in the Norfolk Fens.

According to the organisation, wind turbines are the most efficient renewable technology, a position which E.ON echoes.

E.ON, which has 20 onshore and offshore wind farms, has claimed that land-based wind farms are the most cost effective renewable energy technology.

The company behind the plans for the 57 megawatt (MW) capacity wind farm, also claims that the location is ideal for such a project.

It cites its own measurements, the national windspeed database and the Arup and Partners Regional Spatial Strategy survey in claiming that the site has good wind velocity.

The proposed wind farm, which would use Enercon E-82 turbines rated at 3MW would generate enough electricity to power the equivalent of 28,000 homes.
