Cavity wall insulation recommended

Cavity wall insulation has been recommended over double glazing as an energy efficiency measure.

An expert in the field with over 20 years of experience, has told householders that unless their windows are in dire need of replacement, cavity wall insulation will be a bigger help in making their homes cheaper to run.

Mike Malina, an energy efficiency specialist, has echoed E.ON's suggestion that people install cavity wall insulation in their homes.

He added that there are other measures which will provide a better financial return than double glazing.

"For example, you can look at cavity wall insulation, draft stripping, thermostatic radiator valves; individual valves that you can fit to radiators that control them individually. Those are the kinds of things that you should be doing first," he said.

The Energy Savings Trust has said that if cavity wall insulation were installed in all homes, Britons would save a cumulative total of £962 million every year.

Being energy efficient, the agency claimed, could save a home £300 a year on energy bills.
