Homeowners should check the energy rating of new windows before buying them, according to Anglian Home Improvements.

According to Melanie Russell, of the home improvement company, windows can account for a significant amount of heat loss but comparing the energy rating of different products can help consumers choose which will help their home be more energy efficient.

Speaking alongside celebrity interior designer Anna Ryder Richardson, Ms Russell said: "If you are going to replace windows - as a lot of heat can be lost through windows – make sure that you do it with a correctly energy rated window that is going to be more energy efficient and save you money on fuel bills that are constantly fluctuating at the moment."

Installing energy efficient double glazing is among the energy efficiency measures recommended by E.ON.

The publicly owned power company also suggests installing cavity wall and loft insulation.

Other easy measures include installing radiator reflectors and energy efficient boilers.
