Green home improvements, such as those recommended by E.ON, can add long term value to a house, according to celebrity property expert Phil Spencer.

The presenter of Relocation, Relocation, Mr Spencer has claimed that as well as having an instant impact on bills, boosting a home's energy efficiency will add value.

He noted that improvements, such as installing insulation or double-glazing could lead to "some immediate benefits on your household bills".

But beyond the impact on households' wallet now, he said that "green improvements will add long-term value and they are increasingly popular".

According to a survey by Lloyds TSB, installing an energy efficient boiler is the green improvement that adds most value to a property, with 73 per cent of the respondents agreeing.

Earlier this year a survey by the Energy Saving Trust revealed that people would be willing to pay more for a home which is more energy efficient.
