Energy prices focus people on energy efficiency

Rising fuel bills have resulted in growing number of people turning their attention to energy efficiency, according to the chief executive of the Energy Saving Trust.

As the price of energy rises, driven by higher costs on the wholesale markets, people are becoming focused on reducing their bills by making their homes more efficient, Philip Sellwood told the Times.

"There is no doubt that the price of oil and fuel going up ... certainly concentrates people's minds," he said.

He also noted that most people who seek to make their homes more efficient are doing it to reduce their costs, although some are motivated by reducing their carbon footprint.

E.ON's interactive house website demonstrates a whole range of measures which can save households money on their energy bills.

Simple steps like drawing curtains and turning off appliances feature on the website, as do such measures as installing energy efficient boilers, insulation and double glazing.
