Simple energy-saving improvements could slash the cost of heating homes this winter, according to property expert Anna Ryder Richardson.
Ms Richardson, who last week launched an energy efficiency guide for homeowners said that with rising energy prices, efficiency is the only way to cut bills.
Energy prices have been rising as a result of higher costs on the wholesale markets and the way to combat the increase is to make homes use less energy.
She said: "More than ever before we need to think about what steps we can take to make our houses more energy efficient. By making some simple energy-saving improvements, such as installing quality double-glazing or loft
insulation, homeowners could really slash their costs whilst helping the environment at the same time."
E.ON's interactive home website has additional low cost recommendations, such as installing radiator reflectors, hanging thick curtains and turning appliances off instead of onto standby.
