Families with young children will be able to benefit from a scheme that will help them keep their homes warm this winter.
One north-west council has decided to expand a programme of free
insulation to households with children under the age of 16.
Until now, the South Lakeland District Council (SLDC), offered the
insulation only to residents over 60 living in their own home or in private accommodation.
However, the scheme has now been announced in a bid to help families cope with fuel bills, which have been driven up by the cost of gas on wholesale markets.
Councillor Brenda Gray, SLDC portfolio holder for housing, told the North-West Evening News: "This will be very welcome news for families with children in South Lakeland, particularly with rising fuel prices and winter soon upon us.
"It will help people and particularly families with younger children to live in warmer, healthier homes."
E.ON, which can help customers with a range of energy efficiency measures, from programmable set-back thermostats to condensing boilers claims that loft
insulation, is the most important building
insulation component and the cheapest to install.
