Household's ambition to 'go green' need not come to an end as a result of rising fuel costs, according to environmental campaigners.

In fact, Friends of the Earth (FoE) points out that the green mentality can help people make savings on their energy bills.

Marie Reynolds, FoE spokesperson said: "The credit crunch and escalating fuel prices needn't stop people from going green. In fact, there are savings to be made right from the word 'go'.

"From switching off appliances and using energy saving light bulbs to updating your home boiler and insulating your loft, green measures can cut fuel bills considerably."

Other energy saving measures recommended by E.ON include installing double glazing, energy saving light bulbs and radiator reflectors.

Using E.ON's interactive house website, consumers can find a range of suggestions including using curtains and making sure all appliances are switched off rather than left on standby.

These steps will help households reduce their bills as well as cut their carbon emissions.
