Insulation needs more promotion

The government insulation scheme needs to receive a greater level of promotion, according to green campaigners.

Installing insulation, which E.ON recommends for all homes which do not have it yet, is an effective way of reducing energy bills and carbon emissions.

Prime minister Gordon Brown announced the Home Energy Saving Programme in September, which offered householders a discount on installing insulation.

The scheme is managed by various organisations including suppliers such as E.ON.

However, the WWF, claims that the government has not done enough to let people know of the offers that are available to them.

Speaking at a debate entitled Best (Eco) Footprint Forward at the Grand Designs Live Show, Lucy Bertenshaw, WWF's senior campaigns officer for transport said that the programme provided incentives to homeowners.

However, she added: "There might be financial incentives but if no-one knows about them then people won't take them up. That is one of the big challenges; to get people to know more about these deals."
