Insulation 'probably best' efficiency measure

Tackling heat loss through the walls and roof by installing insulation could be the best thing consumers can do to boost their energy efficiency, according to a non-profit group.

With E.ON noting that 33 per cent of heat escapes through the walls and 26 per cent leaks through the roof of an uninsulated house, David Hall of the Climate Group has said that insulation can help people become most energy efficient.

Mr Hall, who directs the Together initiative which aims to help every household reduce carbon footprint and save money, said: "Insulation probably stands out as the single biggest thing people can do to cut their energy bills and carbon footprint."

And he added that consumers were reluctant to spend more and the government and companies should make it easier for people to take action on climate change.

The E.ON website reveals that even people not eligible to get their insulation for free can still get it at a discount and that E.ON customers are entitled to further discounts.
