Plastic double glazing cuts home bills

Householders eager to improve the energy efficiency of their home but hesitant about spending money on replacing their sash windows, could try plastic double glazing.

Sue Sheehan, whose period house Gordon Brown used to launch his £900 million energy aid package, told the Mail on Sunday she saved 42 per cent on housing bills by draught proofing her home.

However, instead of installing double glazed window, she put in plastic panels which attach to windows with an adhesive magnetic strip.

"I did get a quote for glass but it was £7,500, while the plastic panels cost £700 for the entire house," said Ms Sheehan.

"They made more difference than anything else in keeping the house warm and after two winters they will pay for themselves," she added.
