Businesses 'must focus on climate change'

Organisations making plans on how to tackle climate change should make sure that they include staff in their strategies, the Trades Union Congress (TUC) has said.

The union group recently commissioned energy and climate change consultancy AEA to conduct research into whether companies in the UK are considering the effect of the climate change on employees.

It found that less than one per cent of the 134 businesses surveyed that thought about their workers when thinking of how they will cope with a changing climate.

Brendan Barber, general secretary of the TUC, said: "The UK's weather is slowly changing so that by the middle of the century our winters and summers will be very different.

"Some companies are planning for how they need to change to stay ahead of the competition, but few have given any thought to how climate change could dramatically alter the lives of their employees and have a huge impact on the way they work."

We offer advice to businesses on improving their energy efficiency and reducing energy bills.
