Loans to make buildings more energy efficient and
reduce energy bills have been named as a priority in the Budget.
The government plans to invest £65 million over 2009-10 "to achieve a step change" for schools, hospitals and other public sector buildings planning more environmentally friendly design.
All organisations in the public sector will be able to apply for these interest-free loans which will help them to implement energy efficient technologies and seek advice for future projects.
Small to medium-sized businesses will also benefit from the loans, which have been made possible by an additional £100 million investment.
"The package of measures set out by the chancellor [in the Budget] is good for the environment, good for jobs and good for energy consumers, helping ensure that Britain's recovery and long-term future is low carbon and secure," explained Ed Miliband, the energy secretary.
A study conducted by us last year found that only 14 per cent of
businesses were training their staff to be more energy efficient.
