New library to be heated renewably

A new library that will supply a range of community services is to be warmed by a ground source heat pump and will be insulated by a green roof.

Canada Water residents will benefit from the library, shaped like an inverted pyramid and clad in light bronze coloured aluminium sheets.

The building, for which Southwark Council signed a construction contract for yesterday, is to form part of a plaza where farmers markets, TV screenings and festivals will take place.

Heating for the building will be provided by a ground source heat pump.

Helping to insulate the building will be a growing green sedum roof, which will also help control rain runoff.

The building will also have a grey water harvesting system.

Councillor Paul Noblet, Southwark Council's executive member for regeneration, said: "Residents will easily find a range of council and community services, delivered via a building that reflects Southwark’s commitment to providing essential public buildings without sacrificing exciting and innovative design."

We can help businesses looking to install renewable energy technologies in order to reduce their energy bills.

We have developed our own ground source heat pump dubbed HeatPlant.
