Britons claiming benefits are being offered grants to install
insulation and other energy efficient products in their homes.
The funding, which is being made available through the government's Warm Front programme, has been expanded from £2,700 to £3,500 for homes connected to the gas grid.
Households not connected to the gas grid have also been included in the expansion, with grants being increased from £4,000 to £6,000.
Joan Ruddock, the energy and climate change minister, said: "Warm Front has helped nearly two million households since it was introduced, making homes warmer and more energy efficient providing savings of up to £300 a year on energy bills.
"The scheme has worked well, but rising costs of installing heating and
insulation measures often resulted in grant levels being exceeded. We could not allow the very poorest to be unable to proceed because they couldn't contribute to the cost."
We offer a number of grants for home
insulation to owners and private tenants.
