Local authority develops green house

A three-bedroom house in the north-east of England has undergone an extensive refurbishment to make it more energy efficient.

The house was modified in a manner to make it more reliant on renewable and sustainable energy and was redesigned with the help of North Tyneside Council.

Some of the features installed include under floor heating through an air source heat pump, energy efficient lighting, rainwater harvesting and solar thermal hot water.

John Harrison, elected mayor of North Tyneside, said: "This project is unique in the north-east and rare across the country as it has focused at finding the best way to make our older, traditional housing meet the demands for modern, sustainable living.

"As a council we are committed to taking every opportunity to make a difference and protect our environment for future generations. The skills learned on this project will help us in making council-owned buildings more energy efficient and it has inspired us to work even harder to deliver our commitment for zero carbon homes to be available in North Tyneside."

We offer a number of energy efficient schemes for homes every year.
