Budget 'needs to focus on green issues'

Green issues and a focus on ending fuel poverty should be included in the Budget, an environmental charity has said.

The Budget statement will be unveiled by the chancellor of the exchequer at 12:30 on Wednesday, April 22nd.

Neil Verlander, a spokesperson for Friends of the Earth, said that his organisation is hoping for a "real firm commitment" in these areas and that appropriate plans could "rapidly move" Britain towards a low-carbon economy.

"We need to see money being targeted at cutting energy waste. There are lots of homes that are in desperate need of proper insulation, there are lots of people suffering the misery of fuel poverty in this country," he added.

"People are spending a lot of money on heating but that's heating that's actually heating up the atmosphere not their homes because their homes are so poorly insulated."

We offer free home insulation to home owners and tenants over the age of 70, as well as individuals on state benefits like jobseekers allowance, child tax credit and income support.
