Insulation and air source heat pumps will feature in a development of affordable homes to help keep their energy bills down.

The development of seven homes in Bozeat will have energy saving measures funded by the council.

Wellingborough mayor, was at a ceremony to launch the construction of five two bedroom and one three-bedroom homes for rent and a two bedroom home for shared ownership.

According to the Energy Saving Trust, roof insulation can reduce energy bills by £205 a year.

An air source heat pump is an energy efficient way of heating a building.

Jasper Hart, chairman of the Northamptonshire Rural Housing Association, told 24dash.com: "It's great news for local people who often find it hard to afford properties in the villages they’ve grown up in and are forced to live elsewhere."

"We can help homeowners with their own energy efficient measures such as installing insulation, replacing boilers and insulating water pipes."
