Britons who have been following the green renovation of one UK property in a blog series featured in the Guardian may be pleased to hear that the project is almost completed.

Ann Link explains that there are now only a few "snagging" details that need to be carried out to complete her home, where energy efficiency and sustainability have been employed in order to reduce the household's carbon footprint and lower its gas and electricity bills.

"Despite all the insulation we've fitted, heat loss could still occur tiny gaps in the windows and doors. Tape and filler are needed around the windows for further draught-proofing, including the ones we are not replacing," she notes.

Ms Link explains that failing to do this is a bit like wearing a woolly jumper but failing to put on a waterproof coat.

The property now boasts a solar water heating system, which, as well as heating the household's hit water supply, will also help to power its radiators on sunny winter days.

Meanwhile, the newspaper recently revealed that universities in the UK are also increasingly looking to do their bit in going green.
