When she made the decision to help the environment and boost her energy efficiency by having solar panels fitted, one woman from Leicester found she was also able to
reduce her gas and electricity bills by around two-thirds.
Speaking to the Leicester Mercury, Rosie Gordon explained that her gas and electricity bills have now fallen from £7 a week to just £2.
And although she still has to pay for energy on days when the sun is not bright enough to power the solar collectors, on other days she is able to sell her unused energy back to the National Grid, meaning that her energy efficiency is actually making her money.
"By using your own solar power you save money and by selling back the energy you don't use, you make money - as well as benefiting the environment, which was my main concern," Ms Gordon said.
Over the next ten years, she believes the solar panels will have paid for themselves through
reduced gas and electricity bills.
And the Northampton Chronicle recently reported that Campion School, Bugbrooke, is also considering taking action on its energy bills by fitting solar panels.
