With consumers continuing to battle the recession, many may feel that they are unable to currently afford to invest in any major renovations within their homes.
However, Andrew Leech, director at the National Home Improvement Council, has said that there are still plenty of renovations that people on a budget can carry out in order to improve their homes.
He recommended that if money is tight, consumers should consider
insulating their homes, with
loft insulation or
cavity wall insulation.
Such a move could pay for itself as less heat will be lost from the home, meaning Britons can turn down their central heating systems and benefit from
cheaper gas and electricity bills.
"There are other potential ways around improving what you have already got without going outside the envelope," Mr Leech added.
His comments come after Sainsbury's Home Insurance revealed that up to 3.27 million homeowners are planning structural changes to their property within the next year - a fall of 39 per cent compared to 2008.
