With the credit crunch continuing to put a strain on resources, Britons may be putting an increasing emphasis on saving money through actions such as energy efficiency in
achieving cheaper gas and electricity bills.
However, with budgets still tight, one sector commentator has asked whether people are still recognising the importance of green travel.
Krissy Roe, from responsibletravel.com, said the most important thing for Britons at the moment was getting value for money on their holidays.
However, she added that the good thing about travelling responsibly was that it did not necessarily have to cost more money.
"In fact, more often than not it is cheaper, plus it's a more enjoyable way to travel," she added.
Elizabeth Sanberg, co-founder of Go Green Travel Green, echoed her comments, noting that green travel was even more important during the recession.
She explained that travellers who took a train or bus instead of an aeroplane could find themselves saving hundreds of pounds.
And Britons keen to travel in a greener manner may also wish to make some environmentally-friendly changes in their own homes.
Investing in energy efficiency could see them
reducing their gas and electricity bills, with money saved being put towards a summer holiday.
