'Keep an online eye' on gas and electricity bills

Britons who take the time to check their gas and electricity bills on the internet may find they can keep a tighter rein on their finances, it has been claimed.

A recent article on Financial Advice said that many energy providers also offer a discount on gas and electricity bills to those who pay online.

And the resource recommended that logging on to the internet could also prove useful for people who wish to monitor their energy payments.

"It is possible to keep a closer track [online] of what is owed and what has been paid and in many cases you will be able to apply for an interim reimbursement of any credit," it explained.

It has been suggested by a number of sources that paying for utilities online using a direct debit plan can see Britons paying less for their energy.

Such advice may prove valuable to households keen to keep a close eye on their budgets and save money during the recession.
