Homeowners who are looking to improve the
energy efficiency of their property have been assured that buying new-build is not the only option.
According to the Telegraph, an increasing number of homeowners are opting to give old properties a makeover rather than buy new ones.
Environmental consultant Sarah Harrison, who bought a Victorian home in 2000, told the newspaper that she has managed to cut her household carbon emissions by 70 per cent by introducing energy saving measures throughout her home.
"We turned off the heating in March and we have only needed to turn it on twice, for an hour each time, since," she commented.
The cost of the improvements made to the property came in at £17,000. However, she stands to make significant savings on her
gas and electricity bills in the future.
According to the Energy Saving Trust, homeowners can take some
simple steps to reduce their fuel consumption, which include turning the thermostat down by just one degree Celsius and by not leaving appliances on standby.
