Studying a thermal image of a property can encourage homeowners to be more proactive in tackling heat loss, it has been suggested.
Writing in his Guardian blog, Rob Veck said that studying an image is "a useful first step when
greening your home".
He noted that a recent thermal imaging survey of his home indicated that his property leaked a great deal of heat through the ground floor patio doors and
upstairs roof.
"I'm going to tackle these problems myself. I'm planning to get trained up on tiling, brick laying and other building basics at the Bricks and Bread Sustainable Living Centre in Aldershot and then cover my house's leaks using external wall
insulation," Mr Veck commented.
He added that he is also considering installing
solar photovoltaic panels, in order to generate more
clean energy for the property.
According to the Energy Saving Trust, there are plenty of ways in which homeowners can reduce heat loss, such as installing double glazing and energy-efficient boilers.
