Wind microgeneration 'needs more support'

Small-scale renewable wind industry should get more support and guidance from government, according to an industry body.

Small scale wind energy could take off in the UK, but the industry needs more support from government, according to the British Wind Energy Association (BWEA).

Later this year businesses that install small scale wind generation devices will benefit from above market payment for surplus electricity they provide the grid, but the BWEA asked for more guidance on noise limits, reports Edie.

Speaking at an Environment Protection UK conference, BWEA's small systems manager Alex Murley said that the UK, which currently exports 40 per cent of the microgeneration wind turbines it produces, could be a world leader.

Edie quotes him as saying: "The potential is there - we only have to reach out and support it.

"But all this is only possible if we support it in the right way and if we manage and sustain the market."

We have a dedicated phone line for businesses that want to learn about installing their own wind turbines.
