A hydroelectric scheme to provide power to 700 homes in North Perthshire has been approved.
A hydropower scheme in North Perthshire has received approval from Scottish ministers.
The 1.2 megawatt run of river station in the village of Inverar will have the capacity to provide power for up to 700 homes and will contribute to economic recovery, according to the government.
Energy Minister Jim Mather said: "Our economic recovery programme identifies the
renewables sector as a key strength of our economy and one which can play a crucial role in helping Scotland through the current downturn.
"The Scottish Government will continue to support sustainable hydro developments, where appropriate, to tackle climate change and help increase sustainable economic growth."
We own and operate the largest traditional hydro-electric scheme in England and Wales – the Rheidol Power Station.
Hydropower is currently the largest source of renewable energy in the world and large-scale hydro currently generates 1.8 per cent of
UK electricity.
