Demonstration home for energy saving technology almost complete

Measures that could cut down households electricity bills are to be demonstrated in a building that is to be only partially constructed.

The three-bedroom demonstration home, by developer Larkfleet Group, is nearing completion, according to New Builder, though some walls and other features will be missing.

Insulation, solar panels and ground source heat pumps are among the technologies that visitors to the home will be able to see up close.

According the company, although standards for new homes continue to rise – by 2016 all new homes will have to be zero-carbon by law – many housing associations do not know how to meet the new standards and combine energy efficiency and renewable generation technologies.

Managing director Karl Hick said: "Housing associations and developers are being set increasingly tough challenges to meet new environmental standards. They will soon have to build to Level 4 of the Code for Sustainable Homes but many have not yet even built homes to Level 3."

We can help households reduce their energy consumption and cut their electricity and fuel bills.

Visitors to our interactive house website can see the changes they can make room by room.
