A £1 million prize has been offered to the individual, community or business that can come up with the best way of cutting energy use and lower household bills.
The Scottish Energy Efficiency Design Awards launched by environment minister Michael Russell will reward projects that improve the energy efficiency of existing homes.
Not only will measures to make homes more efficient help them make savings on energy bills but it will also reduce their carbon emissions, helping them tackle climate change.
Mr Russell told the Scottish Energy & Environment Conference that Scotland could lead the world in combating climate change and had a range of policies in place but that domestic energy efficiency had to be included.
He added: "The Scottish Energy Efficiency Design Awards will help us find pioneering and affordable solutions that can inspire others. Housing providers, the building and construction industry, householders and communities will all be encouraged to come up with innovative solutions."
We recommend that households install
insulation, double glazing and efficient boilers to reduce their energy bills and boost their energy performance rating.
