New technologies are to help a school in Peterborough keep its energy bills down while educating pupils.
Solar thermal water heating devices, a "green" roof for
insulation and smart lighting are among the measures installed in an extension for the Orton Wistow Primary School.
As well as the
energy efficient measures, the £1.3 million project has also seen energy monitors installed around the building so that pupils and staff can keep track of their consumption.
Headteacher Simon Eardley said: "It's great to have a building that is flexible to meet the areas of the curriculum, and just as great to have a building the children can learn about. Then it's not just a space we can occupy, but a space we can learn from.
"We want the children to be aware of the environment, so as adults they may be more discerning shoppers and think about how green the things they buy are."
At E.ON we also
help schools cut their energy bills and teach pupils about the environment.
Our SOURCE Fund provides money for schools to install renewable energy technologies – among them a wind turbine at the Ashlawn School and Science College in Warwickshire.
