Businesses looking to cut their energy bills have been urged to take some simple measures by the Tyneside Economic Development Company (TEDCO).

Carole White, business support manager at TEDCO writes in The Journal that reducing energy costs will also have "a very positive impact on the environment".

One of her suggestions is to reduce the temperature inside offices to 19 degrees centigrade.

She cites the Carbon Trust as saying that every one degree raises heating costs by eight per cent.

As well as urging companies to ensure all appliances are turned completely of instead of standby, she suggests re-evaluating purchasing decisions to take into account appliances that are energy-efficient rated.

She added: "In such testing times, cost-saving measures are not an option, they are essential. When saving business costs can also result in saving the planet, it’s a win-win situation."

We offer businesses advice on cutting down their energy use and have a dedicated phone number.

We also offer green electricity tariffs where the electricity is generated by renewable sources such as wind power.
