In an effort to enjoy
cheaper electricity bills, one businessman decided to show his staff just how much energy they were using.
Writing in The Publican, Mark Daniels, a Cambridgeshire landlord, said he has started to address his business electricity consumption.
He purchased an
energy monitor which shows him and his colleagues how much each task costs to carry out, as well as showing how much electricity is used.
Mr Daniels commented that even if he saved £1 a day by becoming more
energy efficient, it adds up to a sizeable sum over a year.
"By putting the display in a place where my staff can see it, they've become more aware of the business's electricity usage too," he added.
After installing the device, the landlord discovered that Sunday lunch time is the most expensive trading period, while Saturday is the most expensive day.
John Barwise, chairperson of the Cumbria Green Business Forum, recently stated that the UK lags behind other countries when it comes to emphasising
renewable policies and energy efficiency measures for businesses.
