With the summer firmly here, many people may be looking forward with anticipation to a holiday overseas, whether it be in a hotel, apartment or rented self-catering accommodation.
However, the Edinburgh Evening News has warned holidaymakers to ensure they remain alert to any possible risks that could be lurking during their stay.
One such threat may be carbon monoxide, which could be leaked from a faulty
gas boiler.
The resource notes that holidaymakers can look for signs on the
gas boiler or elsewhere in the accommodation that a gas leak may be occurring.
Evidence can include a build-up of condensation on the windows, yellow or orange flames in the boiler or a gas light which repeatedly goes out and soot around the appliance.
And symptoms a person may experience when being poisoned include headaches, nausea, fainting, dizziness and vomiting.
Should the symptoms improve when a person goes outside then it is advisable to seek medical attention to ensure that carbon monoxide is not the cause.
A faulty
gas boiler can be repaired by a member of the Gas Safe
TM registered engineer.
