Church sees the light 'with new solar panels'

A church in Sleaford has seen the light thanks to new solar panels which it is hoped will see in enjoying cheaper gas and electricity bills.

St Denys' Church has become the first in the area to have the solar-powered technology fitted, which will lead to the energy efficiency of the building being boosted.

Furthermore, the building will also be able to sell any of the electricity it does not use back to the National Grid, thereby increasing its sustainability.

Speaking to the Sleaford Target, Rev Jeremy Cullimore said: "This is a really big statement about sustainable energy and we are leading the way for others to follow."

The new solar panels should prevent some 4.5 tonnes of carbon emissions polluting the atmosphere each year, while it is also hoped that electricity bills will be reduced as the panels will generate £1,300 of power annually.

Meanwhile, Get Reading has reported that energy efficiency is the lesson of the day at Little Heath School in Tilehurst, after a grant from the Co-Operative funded new solar panels being installed.
