Young people in Bexley are being invited to design their own posters aimed at raising awareness on the threat of carbon monoxide poisoning.

Local news provider News Shopper reports that the winners of the competition will be rewarded with an iPod, while their schools will also receive funding towards boosting their IT departments.

Organised by the charity Co-Gas Safe, it is hoped the campaign will encourage people to take care not to put themselves at risk of the potentially fatal substance - which could mean arranging to have their gas boiler serviced.

The Gas SafeTM Register recommends taking such steps at least once a year.

And while having gas appliances serviced could reduce the risk of poisoning presented to households, engineers may also be able to offer advice on how homeowners can become more energy efficient.

Such advice may include investing in a condensing gas boiler, which can lead to cheaper gas bills.

Indeed, the Energy Saving Trust claims such a device could lower gas bills by as much as £275.
