Investment in micro energy 'necessary'

While the government pledges to support an increase in the use of wind power, one commentator has argued that it is also necessary for further funding to go towards micro renewable energy solutions.

Such technology may include solar panels and ground source heat pumps.

Andrew Moore, spokesperson for British Eco Energy, said more needed to be done to allow individuals as well as large organisations to benefit from such systems.

"I'd like to see the emphasis on wind continue, but I think we also need to invest in the ability for people to employ micro renewable energy solutions as well," he noted.

He added that wind was a strong resource in the UK and that the country needed to make the most of this but that he would also like ordinary people to be able to choose to use micro renewable energy solutions.

Mr Moore's comments come as the government prepares to publish its Renewable Energy Strategy this week.
