Technologies such as renewables and fuels including coal, gas, wind and nuclear will all need to be utilised together to help the UK lower its carbon emissions in line with government targets, two groups have proposed.
Together, the CBI and McKinsey & Company have suggested the UK takes a balanced approach to reducing such emissions by using coal for two per cent of its energy needs, gas for 16 per cent, Carbon Capture and Storage for 14 per cent, renewables - such as solar power - for 15 per cent, wind for 20 per cent and nuclear power for 34 per cent.
The groups state this combination will create 83 per cent low carbon emission energy.
Venkie Shantaram, partner at McKinsey & Company, said: "It's extremely important to emphasise that we are aiming for the right mix here."
However, homeowners who wish to do their bit for lowering emissions may find that sustainability and energy efficiency are ways of
helping them to go green.
