While DIY may be an enjoyable hobby to get stuck into during the summer months, Britons have been advised that there are some home improvement jobs they should not attempt.
Andrew Leech, director at the National Home Improvement Council, said projects such as plumbing - which may include fitting a new
gas boiler - electrical work or roofing were major projects which homeowners should contact a professional to carry out.
He added that this was important: "Not only from the point of view of getting the job well done, but also from a safety point of view too."
Fitting a
gas boiler without the correct qualifications could leave Britons open to the risk of the device setting on fire, exploding or leaking the potentially fatal gas carbon monoxide.
The Gas Safe
TM Register also recently advised homeowners against servicing their
gas boiler or fitting a new one themselves and noted that they should instead contact a member of their register.
