Homeowners wishing to make the most of the warm weather and long days this summer may wish to turn their hand to some home improvement work which boosts the energy efficiency of their house, following the publication of new research.
The Halifax Home Improvements Survey has revealed that in terms of increasing the value of a property, renovations which boost the energy efficiency or sustainability of a building have come out on top.
Indeed, the financial services provider asserts that double the amount it costs to carry out such improvements could end up being added to the value of a house.
This equates to some £4,327, not including the money that could be saved through
cheaper gas and electricity bills with such improvements.
Commenting on the figures, commercial director at Lloyds Banking Group Stephen Noakes said: "Energy efficiency measures may not only entice the green buyer, but will also help to reduce heating bills and improve a home's energy efficiency."
And this may be particularly important as such information is now contained within a home information pack when a property is put up for sale, which could help to attract buyers.
Devices which can help to reduce utility bills include a condensing
gas boiler,
solar panels and double glazing.
