A new scheme rolled out in one Norfolk property has been designed to help its inhabitants to achieve
cheaper gas and electricity bills.
The Greening-the-Box initiative, launched by Wherry Housing Association, has seen the house in the village of Ringland fitted with new double glazing and improved
insulation.
However, the only heating system comes from an electric underfloor facility, meaning there are no radiators, boilers or gas fires.
Windows on the north side have been made smaller to reduce heat loss, while those on the southern facade are now larger in order to make the most of the natural heat of the sun.
Such changes have been initiated to make the most of renewable energy and allow properties to retain heat, rather than creating it artificially.
Polly McLean recently told the Guardian that she has also set out to retrofit her new Regency Grade II-listed property in Oxford.
As part of the project, the writer had secondary glazing installed on all the windows to boost
insulation.
