Britons may be able to achieve
cheaper electricity bills by investing in renewable energy, as one homeowner in West Yorkshire is doing.
John Anderson, a retired teacher, told the Telegraph that he used grants to fund the addition of solar panels to his roof.
And the renovation has seen him boosting his income by selling any of the unused electricity he generates.
Mr Anderson was also able to successfully lower his gas and electricity bills by switching to low energy lighting and insulating the walls and loft of his home.
He now claims that he uses 71 per cent less electricity and 12 per cent less gas.
"One calculation says I've enhanced a future sale price by as much as nine per cent, so these features pay for themselves almost immediately upon installation," he added.
Homeowners may be able to access financial help towards carrying out such energy efficient improvements, after the government announced that it was to make a green mortgage loan available to help Britons lower their carbon emissions and invest in renewable energy.
