British homeowners need more support and financial incentives to fully embrace
energy efficiency in their properties, an MP has suggested.
Chris McCafferty, MP for Yorkshire's Calder Valley, told the Halifax Courier recently that government must make energy efficiency a priority.
And it would appear that ministers were on the same wavelength, announcing their Renewable Energy Strategy last week, which outlined plans to reduce CO2 by investing in
renewable sources.
"Homeowners need more support and greater financial incentives to green their homes and unlock the potential energy and cost savings within their four walls, particularly in traditional terraced properties common in the Calder Valley that are often harder to
insulate than newer homes," Ms McCafferty told the publication.
The MP recently visited parliament with Grand Designs host Kevin McCloud to promote the need for an energy-saving refurbishment programme for the UK's homes as part of the Great British Refurb Campaign.
According to the campaign, if all the country's homes were retrofitted with green measures, nine million tonnes of CO2 could be saved every year.
