UK residents could do their bit for the environment and help bring down fuel bills by improving the
energy efficiency of their homes, it has been claimed.
Writing for the Independent, journalist Alessia Horwich said the majority of UK properties are more than 60 years old, meaning many are "leaking heat all over the place".
However, she insisted homeowners can make significant
savings on their energy payments by making a few simple improvements - starting with
insulation.
With more than a third of all heat in a house lost through the walls, Ms Horwich claimed installing cavity wall
insulation could reduce bills by as much as £115 a year.
She also advised residents to opt for double glazing to prevent energy escaping through windows, while high-efficiency boilers can help improve slash long-term costs further.
The guidance comes after MP for Yorkshire's Calder Valley Chris McCafferty told the Halifax Courier the government must provide greater incentives for Brits to embrace energy-saving measures in their homes.
