Homeowners in the UK can make their own positive impact on the housing market by taking the plunge and putting their home up for sale, the Independent has claimed.
And while this may seem like a daunting task, one property expert has noted that the home improvements involved need not be costly.
House Doctor Ann Maurice, from the Channel 5 series, said that a simple clean and tidy can go a long way in making a home more attractive for buyers.
She added that people should also put their personal effects and photographs away to allow viewers to imagine their own stamp on the house.
This can help to neutralise the property, she stated.
And Ms Maurice advised spending between one and two per cent of a property's value on home improvements, which may include improving its energy efficiency.
Renewable energy technology, such as solar panels and
ground or air source heat pumps, may prove particularly popular as they are a green option that can ultimately allow homeowners to sell their unused or additional utilities back to the National Grid.
