'Awful lack of awareness' in green products

There continues to be an "awful lack of awareness" among many Britons when it comes to making ethical purchases.

Such is the assertion of Katie Keegan, editor of Ethical Pulse, who said that while some people were knowledgeable about the social impact of the product or animal welfare concerns of the firm they wished to buy a product from, many still lacked this awareness.

Her comments may also affect central heating choices which could boost energy efficiency in the home.

"There are some people with awareness who are not always putting their money where their mouth is, or where their ideals are, which could be due to time or finances," Ms Keegan explained.

However, this awareness may be given a boost following the Budget.

This year's Budget pledged £525 million support to offshore wind farms and a further £375 million for energy and resource efficiency in business, public buildings and households, including £10 million for waste infrastructure.
